In the opening pages of "Imminent Threat," Corey Spann's new action/thriller, we are introduced to geophysicist Daniel Bowman as he is helping to launch a huge oil rig off the coast of Newfoundland. Daniel has been monitoring reports of world wide earthquakes. This seismic activity appears to be spiking in the Arctic and radiating outward in systematic intervals. His growing concern about these phenomena is quickly overshadowed, however, by an incoming call informing him that he is about to be transported immediately to a navy cruiser, and then to the mainland ASAP. Langley wants Daniel Bowman. So begins this tale of sea-to-stormy-sea international intrigue, much of it requiring helicopter rides straight from hell. Mitch Hughes -- an old friend of Daniel's father and the current director of the CIA -- is drafting Daniel to be his personal "eyes and ears" on a DARPA funded project called Deep Sky, currently in progress on an island off the Alaskan coast. There is, of course, no saying "no." The skeptical young scientist is provided with protection (Officer Erica Morillo) and transportation (a silver Mercedes SL500). The Mercedes has several bullet holes in it before the first evening is out; Officer Morillo manages to catch a few as well in the course of the truly non-stop action.
Not surprisingly, Spann is adapting "Imminent Threat" to a screenplay. The story's strengths -- the attractive young protagonists; the constant fleeing from danger; the certainty of betrayal; the uncertainty of the identity of the traitor; the secret scientific project; the beautiful locales (from the gentle harmony of the Florida Keys to the wild cacophony of Arctic seas) -- should make for a satisfying movie experience. "Imminent Threat" has both the pace and plausibility one looks for in genre thrillers, plus an added hook -- there is a sequel coming.
Bookreview.com rates this book Very Good and looks forward to Daniel Bowman's next adventure. Obviously, there are no slow days in the life of a geophysicist.

Imminent Threat Corey Spann 9780615449760 Books Reviews
Corey Spann spins an enjoyable and entertaining yarn filled with likeable characters, plausable circumstances, and believable technology. It's a page-turner that brings reading pleasure. I highly recommend it...and hope to see a sequel soon!
It was a very enjoyable book that captured my attention right away and continued to keep me captivated. It was well written and scientific without being too technical, and very exciting! Along the lines of David Baldacci type story with the intrigue and government espionage. I can't wait for the next one!
My wife brought this book home. The cover caught my eye so I picked it up and read the first chapter sitting at the kitchen counter. She walked in and I told her she would have to wait to read it till I'm done. Every chapter was full of action and suspense. I finished all 300+ pages in 2 days. What a read...I loved it!
Mr Spann, you absolutley must write the sequel.
Imminent Threat captured my attention immediately and never let up through the entire book. The characters in the story were very believable and easily followed, though the intricacies of the story took many unexpected turns.
It would be very interesting to see this book turned into a feature film. It would likely do extremely well at the box office.
This is a very enjoyable book. It is fast-paced and easy to read. It is evident that considerable research was conducted to present a realistic story about the ongoing efforts of the world's major powers to develop more powerful weapons. The story makes us wonder what new exotic weapons are actually being secretly developed today...and what unknown activity is going on in the shadows to uncover and steal those secrets. I hope that a sequel will be written.
This is another author that I can add to my "favorites" list, along with Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn and David Baldacci. Corey does a masterful job of placing the reader in the moment. At each turn and twist of the story, I felt as though I was along for the ride. It's a wonderful thriller that holds your imagination. If you're like me, you'll find it difficult not to turn the page and absorb it in one reading. I am eagerly waiting for a sequel! I can't wait for Daniel's next adventure.
I found Imminent Threat to be a great read. It is action packed and hard to put down once you start reading it. Be prepared to spend a few hours escaping from your world to the reality of Daniel Bowman's world. The reader simply gets caught up in the action. You feel like you are there! There are more twists and turns to this story than any roller coaster ride I know.
